Why simple arcade games still beat the flashy ones

There's a quiet snobbery about simple games, like a title has to be complicated to be worth your time. I don't buy it. Some of the best hours I've spent on my phone were with games that fit their entire ruleset on one sentence.

The magic of a good arcade game is that the depth hides inside a tiny box. You learn the controls in seconds, but mastering the timing takes weeks. That gap is where all the fun lives.
